Entering China: 

• Exercise normal safety precautions while in China. As you would in your own country, stay aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. 

• Penalties for serious drug offences in China are severe and include the death penalty. Foreigners have been executed for drug-related crimes. The use or possession of even small quantities of ‘soft’ drugs is illegal and laws are strictly enforced. 

• Organise comprehensive travel insurance before you go, read the fine print carefully to understand what is and isn’t covered.  

• Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your intended date of entry. 

Before you go: 

The overlap of relevant policies means that individuals from 86 countries can now enter Hainan for tourism, family visits, trade, and other purposes visa-free, and people from all 183 countries that have established diplomatic relations with China can enter in tour groups from Hong Kong and Macao or by cruise ship.

• Sanya Phoenix International Airport
• Qionghai Boao International Airport

The scope of activities is within the administrative region of Hainan Province (in accordance with the provisions of the visa exemption agreement signed with China), and the calculation of stay time starts from midnight on the day of entry.

Note: In case of any discrepancies, the Chinese version of visa policy issued by the immigration authority shall prevail.

Note: If your journey includes a transit through another Mainland China city (e.g., Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou) to Hainan, you cannot use Hainan’s 59-country visa-free policy in most cases. Hainan–related visa policy needs to ensure Hainan is the first point of entry into China.
